The Amazon Esplanade
Crowned by a monumental 30-meter statue (excluding the base), the Amazon Esplanade houses Africa’s second-tallest statue. Inaugurated in 2022, it pays tribute to the Amazons of Danxomè, the elite female military corps whose courage, discipline and dedication profoundly shaped the kingdom’s history.
Today, the Esplanade has become one of Cotonou’s most iconic landmarks. With its contemporary architecture, vast public spaces and views over the Atlantic Ocean, it embodies Benin’s cultural renewal and stands as an essential stop for discovering the country’s history, identity and ambitions.
