A River Between Nature and the Sacred

A few kilometers from Porto-Novo, in Adjarra, a river with dark waters winds its way beneath the trees: the Rivière Noire. Raphia palms and dense vegetation line its banks, where Vodun places of worship are nestled. Nature and the sacred merge here, far from the noise of the city.

Aboard a traditional pirogue, you travel upstream while listening to stories told by local guides. The shade and the still water create a unique atmosphere, disturbed only by the lapping of the paddle.
